Description

“Queen of wrathful rituals, a wrathful emanation of Tara is evoked as a means of establishing peace thru tantric rituals and overcome serious hindrances. The 1st. DalaiLlama Geduen Drub adopted her to protect the outer, inner and secret lineage of his successors.

The present Dalai Lama carried on his flight from Tibet a Palden Lhamo tangkha to safeguard his flight from the Chinese forces. The 2nd. Dalai Lama constructed the monastery Chohor Gyal at the oracle lake Lhamo.la.tso, where Palden Lhamo resides. She is consulted for guidance and divination, whenever the search for a new incarnation is not apparent.

As the fiercest emanation of Tara, the female Buddha, she carries the five magical weapons:

1. Bag of diseases, an old Mongolian weapon to destroy cities by throwing diseased body parts over city walls

2. Bundle of red curses, like a Tibetan book containing mantras to destroy enemies.

3. White and black dice (Tib: Mo.pey), divination ritual to foresee karmic outcome.

4. Ball of threads, a thread binding to catch spirits and protective threads with a knot in the middle..

5. Demon cross stick (flogging enemies), sandalwood baton tucked into the snake belt marked with magical inscriptions.

On advice of Lama Zopa Rimpoche this tangkha was painted for the new Jamyang Buddhist centre in Leeds. Created during the pandemic and painted with pure natural colours and gold to preserve its power for future generations.
