The name means “perfection of wisdom “, the wisdom of all the buddhas personified in the form of a female deity. The daily practice by the ordained sangha ( monks and nuns ) of reciting the Heart Sutra containing the Buddhist view on reality is dedicated to her.

In her upper left hand she holds the heart sutra ( text ), while her right hand holds a nine-pronged vajra, symbolic of the nine paths to enlightenment. Her middle hands are in the gesture of meditation indicating that only through meditation can the insight into the ultimate wisdom of reality be achieved.
